happy again, decorating my room, and being the world's biggest football fan
weekly recap .05
Hey, stranger.
I’m back! The fall blues have left me momentarily and I’ve had such a good week. I had an interview for a new cafe this Wednesday, one that can give me more hours and is a legitimate business. I’ve been really craving some big changes recently, so this is a start. New jobs come with their own anxieties, but I’m excited to have a change of scenery while I still search for full time software roles.
This week I have made the effort to put together outfits that make me feel good, and I am happy to report that I’m getting somewhat better at dressing for the winter weather. Here’s a quick round up:
01. My Aritzia pink mini dress / Doc Martens / thrifted sweater / headscarf I got from M’s mom. This was a Trader Joe’s outfit I threw on and didn’t expect to feel as cute as I did in it. The scarf around the skirt was my way of forcing myself to get creative with accessories and it was so fun.
02. Aritzia hoodie / Levi’s jeans / new Adidas sambas (gifted from M’s neighbor) / baseball cap. I didn’t mean to be a walking Aritzia ad this week but I love their hoodies so much and highly recommend (they are so expensive so I’m sorry in advance). This was what I wore to stumble out of bed and go to the library; my books that I had on hold for so long finally came in! Good Omens (Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman), here I come.
03. Green puffer I borrowed from M / thrifted jeans / wool scarf I wore to my Ballard shopping day this week. Because it’s so cold, the jacket becomes the centerpiece of the outfit, and unfortunately for me I don’t have the perfect coat collection just yet. Hence, borrowing. And yes, I did put my sunglasses on indoors just so I could capture the whole outfit, sue me.
04. Grey slacks / backless top / penny loafers for Friday dinner. I was 3 drinks in and pretty hammered when I took this, oops.
I ate so good this week! Mostly out to dinner, but I also made a fair amount of home cooked meals. Most notably, last Sunday night I made apple crumble and sausage / kale / orecchiette soup and might I say, it was some of my best work. The soup had the perfect slop to liquid ratio and I paired the crumble with oat milk vanilla ice cream.
Cooking and hosting for my friends and family has been such a joy for me recently. I’ve been joking that I’m becoming Martha Stewart but I truly think it’s been such a good way for me to connect with my friends, and I love trying new recipes out on people. My tip for those who get overwhelmed, if I’m qualified to give one, is to prep all the ingredients (chop, measure, set out) before people come over so that you can hold a conversation while cooking. If I don’t do this I feel frantic and stressed trying to not burn whatever is on the pan. Also, something I need is a stand for cookbooks so that I can view the recipe without getting my greasy fingers all over my phone or recipe. This would be an even better purchase if I grew my cookbook selection and actually used them.
This week I also hung some art up in my room, which I’ve been avoiding since I moved in. I have sort of a strange assortment of items to hang up, but my room is feeling so much more home-y and cozy. Usually, I really struggle with decorating my room because I have this idea that my room is a direct representation of me. The pressure to make sure it’s an accurate representation is somewhat stifling, so usually I end up half-assing it and then hating my room. But I’m working on it! Surprisingly, not worrying about how it looks too much was the right move here, and I actually really like how it turned out.
This upcoming weekend is another football weekend in Seattle and I couldn’t be happier about it. I love sporting events, I love sipping hot drinks in the stadium while it’s freezing, and I love not having to think about what I need to do that day. The vibe is reminiscent of a snow day, for some reason. I’m also going to Cafe Lago which, for those of you in Seattle, is a must-try if you haven’t been already. The walk is treacherous over the Montlake bridge and through the heinous construction of North Montlake neighborhoods, but the restaurant itself is glorious and one of my all time favorites. And I’m feeling happy this week!! I’m celebrating that feeling because it’s not been a regular one for me. I do think working more has helped (all my coworkers quit and now I have my pick of shifts) because it’s given me a good balance of free time and the ability to make money, but mostly I just feel like I’ve been intentional about how I spend my time, and it pays off.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you next week!
xoxo, ev
