xmas gift guide
for your friends who deserve way more than whatever is on this list
My friend E told me to make one of these, and even though I don’t consider myself talented in the gift realm, I thought I’d give it a go.
I am way better at GAIG (Gifting As I Go) because keeping one eye peeled for things the people in my life would enjoy is easier for me than online shopping for ages. I also love to shop, so it gives me an excuse to peruse a little extra. Saying that, here is my gift guide comprised of baubles you can get online.
Tabletop Ashtray & Lighter from Houseplant — $142 right now, usually $220. Houseplant is Seth Rogen’s weed company and he also makes a really cute Fliptop Lighter ($45) and Vinyl Collections ($95). Perfect gifts for someone who loved Pineapple Express and/or funky home accessories.
Vintage Zippo Lighter from Northern Electric Lighting Company — prices from $30 to $300. I own one of these actually, and I love it. There are endless options, and for anyone who also loves vintage things, this is perfect. Imagine someone asking you for a light and you pull out this 1930’s heart shaped lighter ($245) or this 1960’s ace of hearts lighter ($30). Ugh! So sexy.
Olive Oil set from Brightland — $150. This set is so cute, I love it. You can get a single bottle for around $40, and a mini set for around $85. Each bottle has a different infusion, and while there’s probably comparable oils you could get at Whole Foods, these bottles are beautiful and would be perfect for someone who loves a cute kitchen display. Also super cute to turn into candle holders when you’re done.
Recipe Journals from Papier or Bespoke Letterpress — around $35. I found one of these at Eliot Bay Book Co. the other day and was instantly obsessed. The pages are blank outlines for recipes that you fill yourself, which is perfect for anyone who loves to be creative in the kitchen, or a grandma. Or me. Ahem, my birthday is December 23rd… You can probably get these from a multitude of places, but some of my favorites are this one from Papier ($34) or this journal from bespoke Letterpress ($44.95). There are a wide range of cover designs, which makes it so easy to get one specific to your person’s taste.
Jewelry from Faris — from $30 to $4000. I adore this woman, and I adore her jewelry so much. I wear my ear cuffs ($95) every day, and while I do think the cuffs may require trying them on at her studio in Capitol Hill for comfort, she has the most gorgeous earrings and necklaces. The prices range quite wildly, which is great because there are a good amount of more affordable pieces that still have amazing quality. Faris is by far my favorite jewelry designer of all time.
Dolce and Gabbana Moka Pot set from Williams Sonoma — ($129). Ugh, I wish I didn’t have a perfectly useable Moka pot so i could buy this for myself. It’s expensive, but considering its D&G.. its a steal. I think the designs are brilliant and again, perfect for anyone who loves to show off their kitchenware. There is also a Moka Pot set with 2 coffee cups ($195) instead of the coffee container, so cute!
Fiona Apple’s When the Pawn vinyl from Merchbar — ($25). um, this is just for me. I want this. Please, someone buy it for me. Any Fiona record would do, actually.
Well, that was fun. I think the Love List by Jess Graves has way better gift guides that I would recommend if you need ideas. Too bad I can barely afford rent, otherwise all of my friends would be getting these Diptyque refillable candles ($208) and Hermes Lip glosses ($75), just because.
